3 Mom Mantras to Take Down Mom Guilt

I believe that motherhood is hard enough without all the heavy, unnecessary guilt so many of us carry around. These mantras might seem obvious, but they help me in those moments when my perfectionism haunts me and ruins beautiful moments with my daughter.

1. There’s no such thing as a perfect mom.

This is a great one-liner to say to yourself in those times when you get perfectionistic and hard on yourself, when your baby bumps his head and you feel you should have been watching him closer, or when you let your toddler have more screen time than you thought you should because you just feel exhausted.

When you feel yourself comparing yourself to perfection, ask yourself, who are you comparing yourself to? That perfect mom doesn’t exist. And actually, if you were a perfect mom, you would be a terrible mom. See: https://lightupmoms.com/?p=121

2. I have suffered enough.

I have to give comedian Ali Wong credit for this one, which she shared on the Ellen Show during her April 2018 appearance. This one is meant to be humorous, but ever since I viewed that clip, I love this mantra and say it to myself all the time. She says it to herself when she feels that she should be doing more or working harder as a mom. Our standards for ourselves are often so high, and we feel that we should always be working harder, sacrificing more, ignoring another one of our own needs in order to attend to our childrens’ needs. We are working so hard for our kids every single day, and sometimes we need to remind ourselves of just how hard it has been in order to cut ourselves some slack.

3. I’m trying my best, and that’s good enough.

It’s true. You’re trying your best, and that’s amazing. Your children are so lucky to have such a great mom. Go easy on yourself.

Sometimes it’s the simple things that can help us. Do these mantras help you? Comment below- what’s a mantra that helps you?
